Sadism refers to the tendency to derive pleasure from the suffering of others, whether physical or psychological. It encompasses a range of behaviors, from enjoying witnessing pain to actively inflicting it. While often associated with criminal behavior or sexual deviancy (sexual sadism), research suggests that sadistic tendencies can exist in subclinical forms within the general population, sometimes referred to as "everyday sadism".
