This collection of short pieces is series of recollections and considerations of an office worker who daydreams on the job. With influences from interactions with colleagues and surrounded by regret, the invented character not so dissimilar from the author, struggles with the need to earn a living by travelling the unpleasant byroads of a day job (a phrase borrowed from writer Dawn Powell) and the creative work that sustains her.
