THE GAMBIA AND SENEGAL

By Steve Edwards - Published on Jan. 12, 2021
In March 2016, Steve and Jackie returned to The Gambia, a country that they first visited in 1981. With their guide, Yaya Barry, they travelled the length of the country and then, after overcoming difficulties at the border, they crossed into Senegal. Here they encountered several pairs of Egyptian Plover in their breeding grounds on sandbanks in the Gambia River. This bird was the main target of the trip, being a very unusual species, the only member of its family (i.e. a monotypic species). A great diversity of birds and other wildlife made this a most successful and enjoyable tour.
