Steve and Jackie travelled to Ecuador in December 2019 for a two-part trip. First they spent a week in the Galapagos archipelago on a tour with Pete Oxford Expeditions, visiting the western islands. Following this, they flew to Quito and after a short break there, spent a further week birding in the cloud forests on the western slopes of the Andes with a guide, Mauricio, from Mindo Birding Tours. A key target species here was the Toucan Barbet as it is one of only two species in its family.
