SWEDEN 2016

By Steve Edwards - Published on Jan. 12, 2021
Beginning in the lowlands of central Sweden, the group travelled north to Lapland, a wild and untamed landscape and home to the nomadic Saami people. We explored taiga forest, lakes, wetlands, mountain and tundra habitats in search of a comprehensive range of Swedish birds. The fresh air, wonderful quality of light and spectacular scenery were among the additional pleasures of birding at these latitudes. Among the highlights were six species of owl, six species of Woodpecker, Slavonian Grebes in full summer plumage, Bluethroats singing day and night, and fifteen Red-necked Phalaropes in a feeding frenzy at dusk.
